Default should I buy an ES350?

Hey all, I've been perousing the clublexus boards for quite a while now and initially decided to purchase a GX470 when I registered (a la my user name). Currently, I can't really find a gx that suits my tastes and budget and have decided to keep my current SUV and get a sedan.

I have flip flopped back and forth between a GS, ES, and LS for some bit of time and have concluded the most recent generation GS (2006+) is too expensive even in this economy, and the previous generation LS (2004-2006) while a great car, is becoming a bit outdated (and still kind of pricey in my area).

I have looked around online and realized that a 2007+ ES can be had for a pretty decent value ($22k-$25k is my budget), with all the features I'm looking for: heated and cooled seats, push button start/smart key, a comfortable, quiet, smooth and supple ride, and the ability to utilize my iPod for both audio and video (via the new Vaistech unit).

I'm looking for feedback from real owners regarding pros and cons, what to look for, any issues common to the ES and finally, why you decided to purchase an ES over other Lexus models or other cars you were considering.

My ideal vehicle would be black/black, with the ultra luxury package and panoramic roof. I'm relatively young (24) and a new car will be my first real, large purchase so I want to make sure I get the most value for my money, and make the most informed decision possible. Thanks in advance!

Hey,

I would definitely purchase an ES350 in a heartbeat. I have my own detailing business, and I have driven all types of cars, from Range Rover, BMW, Ford, Corvettes, etc. None drive as nicely as my Lexus ES.

I would also look at the IS models. Since you are younger, you may be looking for the more sporty look, if you know what I mean. Plus they are lower in price

But when you said: "comfortable, quiet, smooth, and supple" --Lexus ES immediately comes to mind.

As Megafast13 said, check out the IS250 AWD version too. Had one as a Lexus rental and I was impressed with the car except for the rear seat legroom. Too small for a family but for a single person, would be ideal.

I purchased my 2007 ES350 new in November 2006. It now has 22,000 miles on it. It has been a great car. Other than a few initial rattles (now completely gone), this car has been stellar. It is quite powerful, gets good mileage (especially on the hwy), and drives and rides quietly and smoothly. It has been a wonderful car. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I have briefly considered the IS at one point, but I'm a fairly large guy (6'3" 240lbs) and the size of the IS turns me off a bit. I love the styling, but would much rather prefer a luxo interior with the wood steering wheel and chrome accents, vs a more sporty interior with aluminum. I guess for me the sportiness aspect is a moot point that I grew out of; though I'm sure down the line I will grow back into it. The ES seems like a perfect long distance cruiser; which is what I'm looking for to supplement my SUV. Any other feedback is greatly appreciated!

Check out the new 2010 Buick Lacrosse. I know it's a Buick / GM etc but they did a good job cloning the ES350. And you can get AWD, standard XM radio and remote start. But if your heart is set on the Lexus - then the ES350 is a good start or maybe a slightly used LS460 (check out e-bay motors).

The new LaCrosse is nice, but there's no way I'd ever buy a UAW car! We've always known they own GM but I never thought it would ACTUALLY happen..

random question but...do the rear windows in the ES350 roll all the way down or do they do that awkward half roll can barely hang my arm out the window some other midsize sedans do? i know the infiniti i35 is notorious for this...

No such luck on the ES, usually only SUVs have rear passenger windows that roll all the way down. It's probably because of the shape of the body in sedans where the rear passengers are closer to the wheel arch than in SUVs.
