Default Should I buy an extended warranty?

At 47K miles, I am deciding whether to drop the $1200 for an extended warranty or gamble. Powertrain is covered to 70K miles, so this would cover everything else.

07 ES 350 Ultra 7/06 build

Thoughts?

Have you had much trouble with the car to this point?

Is it a Lexus extended warranty or 3rd party coverage? What are the specific details of the extended coverage?

If it's a Lexus extended plan, many don't know or even try...but you can negotiate the price of the warranty.

I put an extended warranty on my 1st ES - 2001....paid a good dollar but only got suspension bushings.....my second & current 2005 ES I declined & so far so good.

There were a lot of defects when new, but the dealer fixed most of them. It is a Lexus warranty. I am trying to get it for $100 over cost.

How long to you plan to keep the car? If you plan on keeping it for a while it might be worth it. At Lexus hourly rate repairs can really be expensive.

I was quoted $1875 today for the Platinum warranty coverage for 8 years or 75K miles with -0- deductible beginning on the in service date. My '07 ES only has 16K miles on it. A lot of money but if you need it it is worth every penny at todays labor and parts cost. This is Lexus best but there are still some exclusions to the coverage. The warranty agent stated this price was a no mark up for him which I doubt very much. Any experience on cost from anyone out there? all comments appreciated. Just trhying to decide on the expenditure worth.

You are betting against a reliable car with a proven track record. Dealers don't sell these warranties because they loose money on them. This is a cash cow business and there is no rule that says that you need to visit the dealer for all your service work. Go find an indy or do it yourself. You could also pull into a Toyota dealer. I had just the oil changed on my ES by a Toyota dealer who did it for half the price of the Lexus dealer. The dealer also did it for cheaper than I could have done it myself using the same oil/parts that I would have used.

Search the internet for Lexus extended warranty / will be able to pay less than dealer wants. Then, print the offer and ask your dealer to match. My friend saved $400 on his '08 Ford 350 van negotiating this way. $400 is $400.....

I would not invest the extra dollars for an extended warranty, Lexus has the highest reliability of any auto, but if you just want one for peace of mind, check with your insurance company I know GEICO offers mechanical breakdown insurance....at a great price.
