Toyota/Lexus recalls 3.8 million cars

OK boys it looks like you are going to get your gas peddle cut down. I believe they are goin to modify it so that you can put 4 floor mats down without getting the WOT problem. So you'll need to wear extra long shoes to reach it . Be carefull that you don't trip or get the shoes caught up under the dash (potential law suit). Maybe you could put a block of wood on the floor so you can reach the new peddle. But watch out we don't want another darwin event. Good luck , maybe the peddle will be chromed.

Pole Position
Yup, that big ole N is so hard to find on my Lexus gear shift. Being Jewish I CAN call it "Jewish Overdrive". Just the thing we need in this economic recession. Even more important last year when gas was over $4. What's next, R for Race? Come-on. Don't you know where N is? I remember my big toe slipping off that dinky excuse for a gas pedal on a 74 Cosworth Vega.
I'm with Garsano, I want that big old metal "foot" gas pedal like I had on my dune buggy. Forge the rosary, gimme the fuzzy dice too.
They better not take out my floor mats on Monday.

Noticed something on Friday with the floor mats. I got the car washed at a full service car wash. They did the inside, removed the Lexus all weather mats to rinse / wash them. The driver's mat was set up correctly but the passenger side had the hooks attached to the mats but the hooks were not attached to the grommets in the carpet. If these guys had reversed it and not attached the driver's mat properly, it could slide up.

Sudden acceleration not floor mats
The sudden acceleration Lexus has experienced (or better yet their customers) is extremely serious. I've read numerous posts on the internet on various sites and it appears customers have experienced this since the 07 models came out. Imagine pulling into a parking lot and having your car suddenly accelerate out of control. Or as a few post indicated up to 100-120 on the highway. Pushing the brakes did nothing. Luckily they finally were able to get control of their cars. My concern is will this happen to my 07 ES350? Will resale values plummet? Hopefully the brake override or other device(s) they plan to install next spring will eleviate the problem. But don't blame it on floor mats.

LexBob2. Wrong. There has been alot of reports of sudden acceleration in fact by some who removed their floor mats. Copy below and read thru including numerous posts by Lexus owners. Note, Ford is 2nd of car mfg. with sudden acceleration problems reported but % wise well behind Toyota. Listen i have a Rav4 (not affected) and an 07 ES350. I am not happy that Toyota has pulled a Chrysler on it's customers. Shame on them

Also, i agree some have had floor mat problems. Especially the idiots who put their winter mats over there reg. mats . I can see where that would be a problem especially as winter mats slip (not able to lock in etc.). And i agree floor mats should be replaced, acelerator pedal shortened etc. but the other fixes they'll make to help protect against sudden acceleration problems not related to mats are what i'm looking forward to.

I find this whole situation very interesting but humbling at the same time. While a misplaced floor mat may very well have been the cause of some of these crashes, I don't believe it is the cause of all of them. One of the drivers who experienced unintended acceleration didn't even have floor mats installed.
