2010 Buick LaCrosse vs the Lexus ES 350
There has been an awful lot of hype about the 2010 LaCrosse. Car & Driver says it beats the Lexus.
How many of you would consider buying a Buick over your ES 350?

I would never consider any UAW built car, no matter what GM was selling the car for. I only buy cars built by non union labor!! What will the 2010 LaCrosse be worth three years from now, zilch, since they'll be in rental fleets and you won't get 12K wholesale for them. Buick is doomed because a whole generation of young people will never set foot in a Buick store.

I might consider it, but not sure if I would actually pull the trigger on the LaCrosse. My ES350 is 3 1/2 years old and has been rock solid. No creaks, no rattles, no warranty work, no TSIB work. It's been back to the dealer for a full detail included with the purchase, 1K complimentary service and 3 yr/36K service. Would I buy another one - In a hearbeat, unless something else really caught my eye.

We looke at the new Lacrosse in person: while it looks like a lot like the ES350, the big front grille takes a lot away from it. Also, it seems to be bulkier than the ES350, more like the Lincoln MKS. The pictures make it seem smoother looking. Decided not to consider it as an alternative.

All that "competes with Lexus ES" advertising just helps Lexus. It continues to promote Lexus as the benchmark. It won't help Buick.

The question can the LaCrosse match Lexus' build quality(especially materials that last). I give credit to GM for trying. Their cars are getting better, the CTS is a good example. I would not trade up my ES for the LaCrosse, I researched this car for over 2 yrs, before buying it. The ES is tops IMO. My second choice would probably be the M35. I'm sorry I just don't see the same luxury and build quality in American car brands. Sadly, US auto makers let the Japanese/Germans automakers take this market from them and now they are playing catchup, and the Japanese/Germans just keep getting better. Good comment above, since the focus is always on Lexus as the benchmark, it just keeps people looking at Lexus, but BMW could close the gap. Lexus must stay on their game for sure.

Well the results of this poll seem to be quite clear so far .
Exactly. I hope Audi keeps those Lexus comparisons coming as well, it only helps establish Lexus as a benchmark .

The German cars are close in INITIAL quality. And even in long term durability of the drivetrains. The problem is that over the last 25 years the electronics in cars have become very complicated. People, including myself who has been there, do not want German cars out of the warranty period for obvious reaons. The Japanese cars, however, remain relatively problem free for many more years than any other cars. Hence the higher resale value etc.
