Is the transmission flare repair procedure safe?
I have my 2007 ES350 with 35,000 km for half a year now. I observed the transmission flare and it's getting worse with the cold weather. From the TSIB TC001-07, it seems to me that I will be getting free new transmission replacement.

00289–ATFWS ATF WS 5.6 qts (5.3 liters,
4.7 Imp. qts)
Here's what cross my mind:
1. From the description, it seems to be a big procedure. The warranty information shows 7.4 unit time. Is it even safe? I am worrying that it will open another can of worms.
2. I only have my car for half a year. Should this be done ASAP?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

My transmission replacement took two weeks way back in 12/06. Used up a IS250 AWD during that time. Have 35,000 miles on the car and no hiccups / problems from the transmission since.

Have you had the dealer do the ECU flash? I did and it worked like a champ. They also found the tranny fluid a bit low, which I'm told is critical. I also have seen an increase in fuel economy around town. Nice benny.
Might be worth a try before having the engine pulled.

Yes! I had it done right after it came out on my '07 which had a 3-4 flare and it completely cured the problem. Just call your dealer. They should be on top of this and certainly would want to try this easy fix before considering a tranny replacement.
