Default Rustproofing

While reading the humongeous owner manuel, Lexus state that i don't need rustproofing, it that true ?

I live in Quebec, canada, so winter is pretty bad. What do your guys recommend: long term rustproof with paraffin, yearly oil rustproof or simply underbody coating ?

Does Lexus cars rust at all ?

On any late model car it's not needed. In fact is undesirable as it my clog up drains that are under the car. Today's cars are engineered to withstand rust and corrosion.

Have any CL members have rusted Lexus ? cause i really hate rust and more so on a Lexus. I've heard that Lexus uses galvanized panels, so that probably helps.

I agree. It's not needed on any late model car.

I live in the Northeast (near Scranton) and still have never seen a rusted Lexus in NY or NJ. Same with the Corvette (LOL).

I beg do disagree. You DO NEED to have your car rust proofed, Especially here in Quebec. I live in Montreal, and I just had my 2001 ES 300 rust proofed.

There was no visible rust on the outside of the car, but underneath, there was plenty of rust. Especially on the break, fuel lines, and on the evaporative system near the fuel tank. It cost me $200.00 CDN for the complete job, but the guy I went to is the most highly recommended guy, by both the CAA and the APA. He drills no holes, but disassembles everything, in order to gain access to every part of the car, both Inside and out. Took him about 3 Hrs to do the complete car. Most other rust proofing placed drill holes in the body. YOU DO NOT WANT THAT.

If you live in Montreal, I can tell you where it is. or go to the APA (Automobile Protection Association) web site click on APA services and you will see what I mean. Their web site is APA.ca

The guy is amazing. He knows every model car, and knows each model's weak points in terms of where rust starts. You only have to do it every 3-4 years. Well worth it.

Phil

You guys up north really lay down heavy salt in your snow road clean up. Would rustproofing void your car's warranty? Seem to remember something about that.

If you get a third party to do the rust proofing then yes you void the warranty. However, if the dealership does it, then its OK. Apparently the mechanics at the dealership are "specially" trained to rust proof Lexuses. Personally I think its just a money grab.

The name of the place is Barry Dunn's Rust Proofing. 514-344-1168

Give him (Barry) a call and discuss your concerns with him. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to rust, and a very nice guy on top of that to. He will give you the right advise.

I know Barry's place, i've heard only good things on him, very meticulous work, but for 200.00, what did you have done because he charges around 500.00 for the complete work.
