Well, i made my first mistake as i was lifting the wiper blade, the arm was hitting hard on the paint of the side of the hood, result from that, the white primer is showing I notice that you cannot lift the blade without the arm hitting it, no good for canadian winter.

I can remedy that defect as on my hold car, i can adjust the arm to be higher.

i dont know if this applies to the es350, but on the es300 the wipers have 2 positions, summer (where the wiper arm is under the hood) and winter (where it sits clear of the hood), you just have to physically pull the wiper up (as if wiping the windshield) till it clicks into the higher position

Yes, the wipers on the ES350 have the two positions.

What ! can you show me how to tilt the wipper arm completely out safely ? I would think the only way is pulling the arm up and tilt out....

Go to the passenger side of the car and using both hands, pull up on both wiper blades at the same time. They will snap up into the "winter" position. You can do it by yanking up on just one blade but it's easiest using both hands and both blades.


ps by yanking up I mean along the line of the wind shield.

I also scratched the edge of the hood when tried to lift the wipers up on my first snowy day with the car.
How stupid that this not so obvious feature is buried deep in the manual.
And it is written up in some incomprehensible Japinglish too.
Very confusing what the "rest" and "retract" positions mean.
And when I read that page I got no clue why you would even want to move the wipers up.

Man, today, i tried to gentlely lifting the wiper arm, very hard and not moving at all .. i don't want to make a second mistake of breaking the wipers. So yanking up with how much force ??!! and how up should it be ? I really feel stupid, know how to drive but no lifting the wiper arms

It feels scary when you do it the first time. It will feel as if you will break the wiper arm, but you will not. Once you do it once you will feel comfortable doing it every time. They were designed this way. Use enough force till they move up, and they WILL move.

Just make sure that you are always pulling/pushing them along the glass, and not away from the glass.

Grabbing each wiper arm close to the base with separate hands is the way to go.
I would guesstimate you need about 15-20 pounds of pull pressure to get them moving.

So do you pull the wiper up so that the base of the arm is now up an inch towards the sky? Or do you move the wiper blade along its normal path, but forcing it because it is turned off?

I work great like everybody else said, by just pulling one up, the other will go with it in tandem. Minimum force. Thank you everybody.
