Default Left Foot Braking

This is the first new car I have ever purchased with an Automatic transmission! I always bought stick shifts for the last 48 years. Of course I have driven a ton of automatics too! Now with this new Lexus, I immediately fell back into an old habit of mine, Left foot braking in normal around town driving. Now I am not talking about the rally car driving and racing technique of LFB with power on, to increase oversteer in a fast curve! I am talking about LFB everyday in normal around town driving. I find I can drive my car more smoothly, expecially in parking lots, taking off from a stop light etc. I researched and found that a few state laws promote it, and a few forbid it! Most states ignore it. I like it, it feels so natural to me. But I also switch over to "normal" RFB at times too. So I do both. In an emergency, I revert seamlessly to RFB without hesitation or thinking about it. What do you all do?

Interesting write up about this: http://www.sonylin.net/car/left_foot_braking.php

My F is also my first car with an AT. And, yes, I left foot brake. it just seems natural. Ever watch the foot work of a NASCAR driver? My truck is a 5MT, and I have no trouble switching between the truck and the F.

After you take your Lexus in for the recall I'll feel much better about your LFB.

I have had a driver's license for almost 60 years and I have always used left foot braking.

I also have had my license for 40 years....so which tells me, either that's the way we were taught, the 'Old School braking' or your just plain used to stick. The very first car my dad taught me to drive was stick. To this day, I am a LFBer.
I truly believe this comes from driving stick. Nothing to worry about as long as you know how to drive regardless. I also find myself 'tapping my left foot'. I think it still waits for a clutch.

I think you are on to something! I too learned to drive on a stick shift car, 49 years ago.

I've had my license 49 years (50 in 4/10). I LFB now and then, especially in stop and go traffic. I still enjoy driving a stick whenever possible.

Hey, I guess we're perpetuating the image of old guys and ES350's.

However rare, there were some of us girls who learned to drive (and still like) stick. Probably, the era.

Default Lfb

Until reading these posts, I thought I was the only one that did the LBF business. I learned on an auto in 1947 and bought myself a stick shift in 1955. In 1956 I bought a new Studebaker Hawk auto and started with LFBing. I've been doing it ever since and have no problem when driving a stick. I thought then and still do that LFBing is safer. But then, to each his own.
