I always wear my belt - except - My mailbox is in a cluster about 2 blocks from my house. When I come home and pick up the mail, I circle the block in my subdivision and then drive to my garage. I don't rebuckle, and I don't want that incessant warning going off. Personally I don't need big brother looking over my shoulder.

I have deactivated the warning on my F, but not on my wife's ES, she wants to keep it. As said on the F, it was a simple DIY, but I've been told that on the ES it's not so simple.

OK, it's done. I talked with the service manager a few days ago who said they are not allowed to deactivate the seat belt buzzer because it is a safety feature. I pointed out to him what Dave Mac said in an earlier post and suggested he look at page 515 of the owners manual for a 2010 ES. He was surprised to find it a dealer-programmable option, one of the customizable features. He called Lexus who told him, yes, it is a programmable feature and if the customer wants it, he should do it.

So I took it in today and it took only a few minutes but it is definately not a user-programmable feature. I watched as the service tech connected what looked to be a computer on a cart to some point under the drivers instrument panel. I was probably forty feet away watching through the service windows. It only took a couple of minutes. When I got the car back, I tested it by driving with the belt off. The warning light blinks but no annoying buzzer.

A special thanks to Dave Mac for his information that allowed me to get this done.

I didn't mind the buzzer on my '02 ES. It was the slow dinging and was only for a short time. On the '07+, they tacked on the fast dinging that goes for a much longer time. I'd like to keep the slow initial buzzer and disable the fast buzzer if that's even possible, but my dealership gave me the same song and dance when I asked to have it disabled last year.

I had my done this weekend as well. It was originally set this way for me on pickup but the battery was out of the car for some body work after an incident with a deer and all the custom settings were lost. Originally the service manager said it could not be done but I explained I lived in New Hampshire where seatbelt use is only mandatory if you are under 18 and that it is listed in the manual as an option. It was the part about the manual that really surprised him and convinced him to do it.
