Do you ever drive you ES 350 like a standard transmission?
I've done this a couple of times this week and wow was it fun. I did it today when merging onto the highway. What a blast. It was also fun last night when I was in stop and go traffic and needed to acclerate real quick. Slam it into first and I'm off like a rocket. The problem is the car is so dang quiet it is easy to redline.

let him have his fun, but i do agree. not that i have owned a sports car, the transmission shift if somewhat sloppy, throttle response is not too good, and if u have the stock suspension I remember there was lots of body roll, in short the chassis isn't totally matched to the power.
please don't be offended, I love my car as well and do occassionally shift myself, but the car is what it is. and it is not that special in the "sporty" department. I imagine any other 260ish hp V6 sedan, would be about the same fun.
*still, as a car enthusiast, hp in a straight line always makes me smile in my ES

My previous car, a 1998 Ford Escort with manual everything, had 110 HP at 5,000 RPM. Not a crazy speed demon to say the least. Enter the 268 HP (when using 87 octane gas) Lexus ES 350. What an upgrade! And the Lexus is so dog gone quiet. Very, very fun to drive. I'd hate to see myself in a real sports car. But after the 1998 Ford Escort and the 1994 Volvo 940, the ES 350 is the sportiest car I've ever owned.

1. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is disengaged before you start the car.
2. Start the engine.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.

When "VSC" warning light and slip indicator are turned on, you'll know that you have successfully completed the procedure.

You cannot really SHIFT the gears on ES350.
All you do is choose the highest gear it would upshift to.
Useful if you want to engine brake, when going downhill or on a slippery road.
If you want brisk acceleration, just floor the gas pedal.
It will downshift faster than by jerking the shifter.
