While it is tragic that people have lost their lives in Toyota vehicles, we seem to lose fact that many, many more have died in other vehicles also. It's important to know what the facts are regarding the so called "run-a-way" Toyota's. I've made my own judgment call regarding this issue, as I've posted my opinions several times, here, on CL.
There are some things that aren't my opinion, however, and we call these facts.

1. As hard as it may seem for most people to believe, there still, to this day, has never been a problem found with any stuck/sticking gas pedal in any Toyota or Lexus vehicle. (improperly installed floor mat, notwithstanding.)
The CTS pedal is a non issue simply because they've never found a defective CTS pedal, either, only the slight mention of a "possibility". This goes back nearly 10 years of investigations from the NHTSA and Toyota.

2. As a percentage of market share, Toyota's sudden unintended acceleration complaints are virtually identical to Ford, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Nissan.. etc.
SUA complaints for Toyota vehicles have spiked lately because of recent news coverage.

3. It has been proven over and over again, that, even at 100+ mph, a Lexus ES350/V6 Camry can be brought safely to a stop rather quickly even while at full throttle.

4. The Saylor crash in San Diego was caused by improper AND improperly installed, all weather floor mats. Toyota was cleared of all wrong doing in that case. The car was NOT at fault.

5. Rhonda Smith's ES350 was sold with approximately 3,000 miles on the odometer and without ANY modifications other than to remove the un-anchored all weather mats. The new owner has reported zero issues regarding SUA in covering 27,000 miles. The NHTSA now owns the vehicle.

One correction on number 5. The American people now own Rhonda's vehicle but will never get to drive it.

We all know Rhonda testified under oath last week right? This 2 year old video basically makes her testimony last week very questionable...

Lexus suddenly accelerates on interstate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6d2aOcziDA

So just like her testimony last week...she appears to be crying...but where are the tears???

Default It Was the Floor Mats?

So, am I getting this right? All the while it was her FLOOR MAT?! She seems to be agreeing with that notion at the end, but the reporter doesn't close the case.

The NHTSA concluded it was her floor mat causing the problem...it's also been reported she incorrectly installed the mats, by putting them over the carpeted ones and not taking those out. In any case, the floor mats were the issue here.

Maybe they just wanted to get out from under the payment or something else. Her testimony is complete BS. BTW tey tell you to take out the ccapeted mat and install the winter mat with the hook in the appropriate position. She is just not believable.
