But now to read this about the short life of HID I might have to turn them off during the day and just use the fog lights.

I had a 1998 Ford Escort for the past 12 years and the only bulbs I replaced was a rear trun signal and the dome light. A dash light died the week before selling it. So much for cheap maintenance.
You have DRL's, which are fairly bright on the ES. Driving with all of your exterior lights on during the day is useless. Tail lights do nothing during the day. Besides that, there is no reason to drive with any lights on during day light hours. The US Gov conducted study a few years back about DRL's and concluded that they make 'no significant' difference in road safety. Turn those lights off.

When I recently purchased new 2010 the Salesman set lights & Fog lights to Auto...so when one comes on the other will also....beleive I will keep as is. I do think putting lights in on postion during day is a little overkill unless your a trucker but to each it's own. Safe Driving .

So I tried just fog lights on today and the fogs won't turn on unless the headlights are on.

I live in Fort Worth, TX where people don't know how to drive for squat. Four way stop intersections are deadly. Nobody honors the rules of the 4 way stop at all. And if someone is on their cell phone they blast thru them like nobody's business. I guess driving with my headlights on won't matter to most people one bit.

So, perhaps I'll turn off my headlights and save some dough. And with that dough I'll buy an airhorn.
