i think what you are referring to is the little rubber "gromet" under the top sleeve of the tpms.. just consider that rubber piece like your old valve stem. as much as people say you dont have to replace it which is true 8/10 times.. ive seen many numerous times when people have leaks in their tire its due to that rubber piece. if i were you id replace it with OEM (lexus) seals every time i did new tires. i mean if your just changing summer to winter tires every 6 months you can wait a little bit.

guitarmike.. as much as that is helpful to not having a tire light.. you can actually get in a lot of trouble that way if that car ever gets into an accident. ive seen people loose cases in court because its not at the specified rating. (aka to low) the whole point of the tpms system is to tell you that your tires are low.. its normally 20% of of what the perferred setting is.. (i know with most lexus' its like 32-33psi.. but some cars like is350rwd its like 36psi front and 38psi back..) easiest way to do it.. is you set all the tire pressures at the specified mark if its at 32psi (as per indicated on your drivers side door jam on the car it should be a white sticker with front and rear tire pressures). once all tires are set to that number exactly you initalize it.. once doing so it resets all of them to the correct tire pressure. in the summer time i normally raise that another 2psi. but in winter time with the dramatic temperature changes i would raise it 5psi above the door rating to maybe 37psi. that way with the cold and with temp. changes (going inside a garage and out etc) it shouldnt come on often.
