Can the power sunshade option be added to a car on the lot? I understand the control panel would have to be changed out. Is the wiring part of the harness or does that have to be added also?

hey, ive been working on this on my IS.
got a power shade from a salvaged is350 and installed it in the back. the stock wiring harness for the 07 is250 had the plugs to directly connect in the back.
i bought the powershade switch off sewell for about 65 n change, and put that in the dash. only problem is they dont have the switch side harness. i have yet to look into how to either hard wire the motor myself by passing the lexus wiring harness, or how to connect to the pinouts under the dash where it would have been done factory.
the problem is that there are 4 wires and i dont yet know how it operates. obviously 2 are for the motor power and ground, but the other 2 i am not certain. there has to be some sort of limit switch controlling the top and bottom limits but i dont know if its an analog or digital switch. if its analog, then its ok to just hard wire it. if its digital, it requires the car computer and we might be boned.
no way to tell until i find another is250 out there with the rear shade stock who lets me under their dash to multimeter their wires, or, risk it and just plug it up to a battery and new switch and see what happens.

The extra wires might be for the reverse function. If you have the stock sunshade when you bought the car, the sunshade retracts when you go into reverse and then comes back up when you put it back into any other gear.

The attached files show the wiring for the sunshade on the ES350. The IS should be similar. Everything is pretty straightforward other than the connection to the reverse signal on the ECU.

Thanks for the info. Isn't going to happen on my car. The sunshade assembly is a touch over $1,000 list price. The switch is around $60. Much too expensive to add on. Also, the wife reminded me that the power sunshade in our Infiniti used to rattle a lot as it got older.

I drive a 2011 3GS and added an LS 460 backseat armrest. The armrest from the LS has a sunshade button from its original car. Being that my GS has a sunshade stock with an original button could I tap in to the wiring anywhere to make this button functional so back passengers can control its position. Like the experience of you doing your sunshade this was an experiment I have myself. Haven't seen this done anywhere yet that I can find!
