Default Engine popped and dropped oil

Hello,

wife was driving her ES 350 2007 about 10 months ago when all of sudden the engine popped. She was near her work and pulled out of the freeway and made to work safely.

I went there and took a look. The bottom of the engine was all wet with oil. I checked the oil dip stick, there wasn't a drop of oil.

It was 49,XXX mile at that time.

We called our certified lexus shop and the mechanic knew what we were talking about (he had several customers with the same car and problem, some even damaged their engines by driving too far without oil). He suggested we called the Lexus dealership (Longo).

Anyways, we dropped the car off for one day. The service guy told me they had to replace a piece around the engine bay that was improperly built by the manuf. I don't have the exact work order, but I can look it up when I get home.

Now the the car is 67950 miles and running strong.

I am curious if any of you had this problem and was this a permanent fix? Can I trust it enough to take a long trip? I recently drove to Walnut Creek taking our Nissan cube instead.

I am just concern since warranty has run out.

Thanks,
Tntrac

Sounds like VVT-i oil hose. Some people on this board had it rupture too.
Do a search on "oil hose recall", and you'll find a few threads.
It was replaced on many ES-350s under recent recall.
You can get a new rubber hose intended for higher temperature/pressure.
Or, if you insist, Lexus would install a metal hose.

Yes .. VVT-i oil hose, mainly issue in 2007. Mine was done 6 months ago too, the problem was that Lexus dealership never got around re-calling all the 2007 models and hence it too late for mine, I was lucky the oil started leaking when I parked the car outside my garage, I got it towed. As far the dealership is concerned the replaced hose is what they use in newer (2009, 2010) models and there should be no similar issues for many years of driving (touch wood long trips should not be an issue.
