Default oil change intervals

guys, what ever happend to the 3000 mile oil change intervals?
I now newer cars keep raising their requirements but I think it's cheap preventive maintenance, i still use the 3000 mile intervals in my cars.
I heard some guys coment on noticing some sludge in their cars, could this be the issue perhaps?

Used to change dino oil every 3,000 miles in the past. Manufacturers changed the mileage to 5,000 miles for maintenance upkeep / keep warranty in play. I use time on our '07 ES350 as we do not put 3,000 - 5,000 miles in three months time. I change the Mobil One oil every quarter.

Even dino oil has become better so no need to overkill the change frequency. If you like 3000 miles then keep changing at that time. Most new oils are good for 5000 to 7500 miles with Syn. going to 10000 miles. So it's what ever floats your boat.

There is no need for the 3,000 mile oil change with today's better engines. Some cars are now recommended to change every 7,000.

Unless you've an exotic auto a 5,000 mile change will do just fine.

Do some research. The 3k mile OCI (oil change interval) is based on a standard from 1964. Have oils and engines changed much since 1964? I bet new cars could go 10k miles even on dino. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com. There are people who do UOA (use oil analysis) on their oils all the time. 3k is just way, way too soon.
