Wood Color
Since I am currently in the market for a 2011 ES 350, I am very familiar with the brochures and the key selling points. The wood used for interior trim is one of the items discussed. Specifically, the brochure states "Side panels and center console are carefully selected to help ensure consistency in grain, color, and shade". You mention the difference being in the shift **** and steering wheel. Based on this, it would not be surprising if those two components are not an exact match, however, they should be close.

My shift **** is a little off but the steering wheel is the one that sticks out as an obvious mismatch from the wood in the rest of the car.. I had an 08 ES prior to this one and all the wood matched.

Sat in a 2010 ES350 at the local Lexus dealership and the shifter has a nice chrome finish on it. If the wood color bothered me, I would seriously think about swapping out the wood shifter for this chrome version.

I have a 2010 and the **** is the basic one w/wood (which matches the rest of the wood in the interior).

I called the service dept. about it. They said they had never heard of the issue and that I should contact my salesperson since the car is less then a month old. I figured they would tell me that over the phone. I will have to go there in person to see what they will say. It is unacceptable. Does anyone have a 2010 with matching steering wheel wood color? I could see how the average person may not notice or overlooked it. It would be helpful to see if they are all like that or are we just a few lucky owners of mis-matched wood.

For what it's worth, my 2010 LS460 also has a wood steering wheel that does not match the wood elsewhere in the car. I have the black interior and the wood around the cabin has a more reddish tone but the steering wheel is distinctly more brown. I don't think most people would ever notice, and it doesn't bother me. I kind of like the subtle contrast. But that's just me.

Thanks for the post Strad. That's exactly the situation in my 2010 ES. Most would never notice. It doesn't bother me that much I was more curious to see if it was by design, some had the issue or all had the issue. I've had no issues with the car and it is so much quieter and put together better than my 08 ES, a little off colored won't kill me.

I saw this over on the Car Chat forum. How wood steering wheels are made. Only a brief mention of color matching. Kind of interesting though.
