Service costs

Lots. Try and find a reputable local garage to do the maintenance. Or a local Toyota dealer. When I replaced my front brake pads / rotors, my local garage utilized Toyota parts and the job was done as well as my Lexus dealer. Just keep the receipts or your local garage should have a computer system that has all of the information in case you need back up for a warranty repair.

You can definitely save money by going to a Toyota dealer or other mechanic. However, for the minor services you're only going to save $30 dollars or so. This has been my experience with my dealer. I know some dealers charge more than others. However, most of the time, I get a loaner car. So I can drop mine off, take the loaner to work, and return back when it's done. This is worth the extra expense to me. I know some won't agree, but unless I'm going to save a hefty amount of money, the convenience of a loaner and the consistent repair history on my car is worth it to me. My 35,000 service cost me $109.00 at my dealer.

My local garage lets me wait in their garage, watching the work being done. They also offer free coffee, baked goods, even lunch. If it is going to take some time, they take me home and will pick me up when the car is ready. Second family to me, two Italian brothers and their sons. There is usually so much to eat that I call them (Gulf station) "Ledoretties Bistro on the Gulf".

Find a good Toyota dealership. They will also have varying pricing. My local lexus dealership charges 300 to do front brake pads and turn rotors. The local Toyota dealership is charging 200 with Lexus parts and turning the rotors.

My dealer quoted around 700.00 for the 30 or 35k service and tried to justify the $ by saying they did much more than the manual called for. I looked at their list and said no thanks. Since then they have only done the recalls.
For the last 50k, the car has been serviced by our trusted local shop that doesn't offer coffee, snacks, wifi or loaners, but is honest, reasonable and does great work.
If I want coffee, I know where the coffee shops are.

I'd LOVE to find that kind of service. It's not easy to find.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised by some of these responses. Everyone likes to save money, including myself...but I bought my Lexus for the whole luxury vehicle ownership and service experience that comes along with it. Yes, at a price. I just don't understand the complaining about cost of service with a luxury vehicle like Lexus...it's kind of expected and part of the deal of luxury vehicle ownership and paying a little extra for the treatment and service that goes along with it. Otherwise just buy a Toyota and save money on your vehicle purchase too, but still get the reliability and a good nice car.

No one here minds spending money on luxury. It can be buying a luxury car or getting it serviced. The LEXUS dealer is the place to go until the warranty runs out - then you need to find and visit a good independent. For sure the price of service drops a LOT, and the service itself can be the same - or better !

My Lexus dealer in Las Vegas charged me $100 for an oil change so I stared using the Acura dealer for $50 (I also have an Acura). Yes, they went to the Lexus dealer to get the "special" o-ring filter for my ES350.
Later the Lexus dealer lower the price to $75 and now it's been lowered again to $50.
