OEM Wheels

I think they are probably clearcoated and that may be what is peeling. I have had that problem with other wheels which is why I always have my factory wheels chromed now. Harsh cleaners and solvents as well as other road chemicals easily damage the painted wheels. If you live where the roads are heavily salted in the winter that of course is a problem for chrome wheels but in Arizona I don't have to deal with salted roads.

Its called neglect. You need to keep up with cleaning and protecting your car. Of course they are painted, what else did you think they would put on there to make 'colorful'?

Manufacturers went to "painted" wheels to save money versus polished cast aluminum. My Chevrolet SS has polished wheels, my ES350 Ultra has painted graphite colored wheels. They have been through four winters and outside of the curb hash marks, they still look good. Just have to use the right cleaner for clear coated wheels and not spray any cleaner in them when they are hot.

You guys know that you can have your wheels refinished for about $150 per wheel? I contacted a company called Allow Wheel Repair Specialists (www.awrswheelrepair.com) to repair my curb scratches. They come highly reccomended and the Lexus Dealers in my area use them exclusively. I haven't had the service yet, because I need to get two fixed and I want to do it on the same day. However, once I get my $300 together, I'm on it. But anyway, check out the site and the before and after pictures fro yourselves.

I don't neglect my car, I wash the dam thing all the time...why every now and then we get a tough guy that likes to run his mouth without knowing the facts. I thought we had this forum so we could ask questions about our cars and not get an *** ripping when we do.

You are clearly neglecting them if they are falling apart. Clear coat just doesn't start peeling for no reason. You either; A.) aren't cleaning them and the corrosive brake dust is building up and eating the clear coat, B.) cleaning them with highly acidic wheel cleaner that is stripping the clear, C.) you are a bad driver and have hit the curb several times, thus chipping the clear coat.

You're also forgetting the fact that it could be an issue with the prep of the wheel during the manufacturing process. Thats a possible issue with any wheel since my 96 ES and my 05 RX have that issue as well. Underneath the surface of the wheel it is "bubbled". Currently waiting to see if the 3GS wheels on my Camry will do the same or not but I've accepted it. So before you go pointing fingers, please open up your mind to other possibilities because saying all this is quite disrespectful to the OP.

My experience with the Graphite painted wheels on my '07 ES350 Ultra:
Painted wheels, not polished aluminum or cast. From the wheels introduced to the curb, many curb rashes. Cannot find any touch up paint to at least make them look a little better. Outside of the curb rashes, the wheels still look very good after four winters and many cleanings with a clearcoat recommended wheel cleaner, cooling them off with cold hose water before spraying the cleaner on. Never been a fan of the new painted wheels but they are holding up.

The one other thread I read on here where someone was talking about the color on his leather seats being stained, same guy called it "neglect" also...just like a broken record...there's always "one of those" in pretty much all forums I think.
