I just purchased my ES350 last night and the salesman and myself were surprised to find out that the car did not have synthetic onboard. I will take my car in at 1,000 and 5,000 miles and have it changed over.
You can look at your oil cap and it will tell you what you have onboard from factory.

yea its not synthetic. even the oil changes from the dealer are dino oil. I am doing my own now ive been using mobil 1. My wife drives alot like 24k a year and I was going to buy amsoil and change it every 6 months or so but amsoil doesnt make a filter for the es yet so I am going to stick with mobil 1 at 5k. Amsoil can be changed every 25k or 12months with their filters. Mobil one has an extended formula for 15k and I think they just came out with a filter for the es. I may get this and doit every 10k. I am just doig oil changes like every 2 months its crazy!

Both are correct; 1K check up, free and 5K full service, oil, filter, tire rotation, etc. free. Then you pay every 5K or 6 months, whichever occurs first (I have the maintenance plan and do not pay for any interval service, and all filter changes and other required fluid changes are covered). The new 2011 now have 10K intervals and MUST use synthetic motor oil to maintain the warranty and 10K service intervals.

I just read the 07 ES350 manual, the oil section does not mention any word about synthetic. It just recommends 5W-30. So I guess it's safe to to just put in regular non-synthetic oils every 5k

All ES350's including the 2011's are on the 5k intervel. They are filled with dino oil from the factory and even after switching to synthetic still are recommended to stay on a 5000 mile service schedule. The only cars in the Lexus line that get 10,000 service are 0w-20 synthetic cars and the ES won't be one of those until the redesign. The 2 that can take both LS and LX are still 5000 regardless of which one you use, only engines designed for 10k intervels are supposed to go that long.

I turned 10K miles yesterday on my 2010. Just changed the oil/filter today and used 5W-30 Dino oil . No need to spend the extra $'s when you change it every 5,000 miles. By the way the used oil was almost as clean as the new oil. So use what you want. BTW my dealer uses Castrol GTX 5W-30 which is what I use.

I believe Amsoil does claim that with their 25K mile oils you can use a filter other than the Amsoil EA Oil filter for extended oil change intervals. However, the filter must be changed according to the manufacturers recommended intervals. (ie: you could run a 10K interval with Amsoil and change the Toyota OEM filter alone at the 5000 mile interval without draining the oil. Of couse you have to top it off with a few ounces of fresh oil.)
