Navigation - Freeway Info
I had never owned a car with a navigation system in it before. On my way back from out of town to pick up my new (to me) 2008 ES350, I set my home address as the destination. When I was driving on the interstate, I really liked how it had a "freeway info" map view where the right side of the screen showed you information about the next three exits ahead.
I naturally assumed that this view would be available anytime while driving on an interstate, but apparently that's not the case. Turns out the only time it will allow you to have the "freeway info" map view is when you have a destination actively selected.
Does anybody else think this is kind of silly? What if you know where your final destination is, but perhaps you don't know about all the exits in between? What if you just decide to take a road trip and don't really have a particular destination in mind? I don't understand why Toyota/Lexus thought you should be forced to have a destination selected in order to see the "freeway info" view on your screen.

It's not really Toyota/Lexus that has a lot to do with the Nav features. It's a system characteristic driven by the producers of nav systems. The features are pretty standard throughout the business. However if Toyota wanted a feature added bad enough and wanted to cough up the $$$$, systems can be modified. You can go on line to Lexus customer service and put in your comment or recommendation.

I might do that. I was just curious if anybody else had given it any thought. I know a lot of people complain about not having all the features available while driving, but I understand that for safety reasons. However, the freeway info option shows up when you press the symbol to change the map view which is available while driving; it's just that when you press the freeway symbol it doesn't do anything. It's not even grayed out like you normally see with features that are intentional disabled while the car is moving....it just doesn't do anything.
