Unhappy My ES350 sacrificed itself for me

Can't believe this just happened. Took my eyes off the road for a split second and boom - the car is history. Traffic had come to a complete stop.

Everyone is ok and the worst on me is a burn from the airbag on my wrist.

Only had the car for a year and really liked it. Thankfully I have great insurance and a small deductible. Not sure if I can afford to replace it with another ES350 at this point - but I'll just have to see what happens.

I have a feeling (hoping) it'll be a total loss (see pic) - repaired cars never drive the same.

ARGH - just so pi$$ed at myself!!!

I was in my lane perfectly centered - but traffic up ahead had halted entirely. I hit a 2010 Equinox dead on - not sure why it seems that the right side took the brunt of it. The SUV I hit didn't look that bad - busted bumper and dented tailgate. Owner had it towed anyway.

For the record - this didn't happen due to any cell phone/texting.

If you've ever quickly looked behind the front passenger seat on the floor, then looked back forward, then quickly reached for the item - this is all I did.

Looks like your ES took a big hit, glad to know you are OK .. surprised it was only the airbags injury, which normal. I must say it's a safe car !!

let me add. my experience. I was accelerating at around 50---> going to 70.. all of a sudden. I see a wobble in the truck 3 cars ahead of me.. I know some thing is wrong. i hit the brakes. the CAR IS GREAT .it precisely. due to VSC. did not skid and went on a straight line. i kept an eye of my rear mirror to see if I need to go into the left ( HOV) lane to avoid being rear ended.. I stopped short of hitting the car in front of me. heart pounding wildly.. I LOVE this car...the safety is GREAT.. have tremendous confidence in it.

BTW, did the curtain airbags deploy ?

From what I can tell - only the steering wheel and knee airbag on the drivers side deployed. The burn I have is on the inside of my wrist below where my watch clasp is - about 1-1/2 inches in diameter.

It's getting towed to the body shop today I think. Does this look fixable? Or am I looking at a total loss?

Thankfully I got such a good deal on the car a year ago that I know I'm not upside down on the loan.

My guess is the insurance will call it a total loss, they'll sell it for salvage, whomever buys it for salvage will repair it and sell it through a small time car lot.

Still waiting to find out what will happen, but of course I'm looking to see what's out there.

Found a 2008 ES350 Ultra Luxury with 76k miles for $23,990 - one owner, clean carfax. Really would love a UL, but not sure if it's worth getting one with that many miles. My '07 has 51k. I also have an extended warranty (non-Lexus) - wondering if that can be transferred or if I can get something back for it, but that'll depend on their stipulations.

Edit - Just did a little research on this dealer.. nothing but negative reviews - people saying "don't trust them!" Knew it was too good to be true.

Glad that everyone is ok, that's the main concern. I don't think you have anything to worry about, there is no way the insurance company will try repair a car this badly damaged. If your miles are not too high I would say you should be able to get near $16-20,000, IMHO. I saw a 350 on cars.com, had 51k miles and asking price was $22, 995.00Good luck on the outcome, and sorry for your loss.

Still waiting to hear the outcome. I paid that same price a year ago and the car had like 36k miles. Part of me is glad I got a good deal, but it stinks that the values of used cars has gone up.. paying the same price as a year ago for a car that is now 4/5 yrs old with mileage out of warranty just really sucks!!

I spend a lot of time find the perfect car - the exterior/int color I wanted with all the options I wanted. I travelled to Texas for it and even paying for an airline ticket I was still ahead considerably.

Most of the ES350s that are out there don't have the Nav/premium packages and if they do, they're in a color combo I just flat out don't want. If I have to find a car I'll have to do it quick - might have to settle for something lesser.

Glad you are okay. I've also totaled a Lexus and it saved me and my occupants as well, very safe cars.
