Cpo
Hey guys,
I need some urgent help as we're very close to purchasing a CPO'ed Lexus.
I did a lot of research/reading on CPO'ed cars last night and it appears to I have no wiggle room to negotiate.
The dealer's asking is extremely close if not lower than what I calculated from KBB, Edmunds, NADA, etc...The difference between what the dealer is asking and what the trade-in at the time was is $4,600! I know part of that $4,600 goes to re-conditioning, warranty, reselling it, profit margin, etc...but really?! Do I have any room to negotiate?
Also, I had another question. CPO'ed cars have 3 yrs/ 100k miles warranty, but the car's original warranty isn't up yet...how does that work? Does it get extended or get gobbled up by the CPO warranty or....????
Thanks in advance!

$4,600 is a lot of $. The dealer tried to give me $5,000 less on my trade in value that I calculated from the same sources. I stuck to my guns and got what the true wholesale market value for my 2007 Ultra was ($22,000) versus $17,000 on their first offer. We got up and were ready to leave to drive one hour to another Lexus dealership. When they came up to $21,500 in value, we agreed and took delivery of the 2011.
Was checking what they did with the car after trade in but I suspect they sent it to the auction as they wrote in red marker on the driver's front window some numbers and letters the day after we picked up the new car. Never saw it on their used car lot CPO or not. I think that if they can negotiate a low trade in value, that gives them so room to make it a CPO in case something goes wrong with the car. The deals are there for leftover 2011 ES350 models.

The deal was: 2011 ES350 - MSRP $43,503. The buy number to me was $18,000 plus my car value of $22,000 would equal $40,000. The $3,503 difference was the $1,000 loyalty rebate, $750 regular rebate and $1,753 dealer discount. They first offered $23,000 plus my car, which in my mind equaled $17,000 trade in value. We settled on $18,500 plus my car for the 2011 (worth $500 to deal locally versus the other closest Lexus dealer 70 miles away). Plus 2.9% finance rate. And they also gave us a $25 Target gift card for coming to the mega dealership, two $75 tickets to the Lexus private party / taste of the local restaurants at our local casino that weekend, bottle of Pinot Grigio wine that is somehow famous with The Girls of Atlanta or New Jersey (gave to my daughter who went wild for it), $50 gift card and two $10 gift certificates to igourmet.com, a fancy cheeseboard and Lexus chrome pen.
