The latest update disc can be had for about $170 (still expensive).
Some guy had the latest 11.1 version for sale on Craigslist for $45 with a money back guarantee. I took a gamble....
Turns out the disc is a very good looking counterfeit/copy (label doesn't have sharp printing) but it works just fine so I lucked out.

The wife and I agree that if we ever plan some sort of "epic road trip" we would update whichever NAV/GPS we were taking with us. Of course, nothing wrong with spending only $50 and taking the Garmin along in the ES. At least the passenger can make entries/changes in the Garmin while we're driving--we do that all the time.

I should have known those two were linked together, but we owned a 2008 Honda Odyssey that did NOT have factory NAV, but it did have a back-up camera. The video display was imbedded in the rear view mirror, on the left side as I recall. IMHO, there's really no need (except for greed) to require the Lexus owner to buy the factory NAV to get the rear camera/display. A little "thinking outside the box" would go a very long way here....
