Thanks to everyone re: slipping transmission on my recently purchased 2007 ES350 Ultra from Crown Lexus in Ontario, CA. 4 trips to Crown, call to Lexus, absolutely no help. Traded in the Lexus heap on a used Lincoln MKX sport utility vehicle last week. I thanked God on the way home. The MKX is quieter, no rattles (we slipped in 7 guitar picks in various parts of the dash to stop a rattle/buzz in the Lexus), has much more comfortable front seats, much less road feel through the steering wheel, and a better radio. Most of all the transmission changes gears with no drama- I can't feel the gear changes. I have written to Consumer Reports detailing my experience with Lexus. How the same company that produced our great 2007 Camry XLE and 2004 RX330 produced this 2007 ES350 piece of junk is beyond explanation. The last thing the service manager at Crown told me was that my driving style (slow starts) and driving routine (short distances in the morning) was to blame for the slipping transmission between 3rd and 4th gear. The service advisor at Crown told me it was the "nature of the beast" and there was nothing to fix. The Lexus transmission slipped 8 times the morning I traded it in. Thank God the MKX dealer didn't drive it. Thank you God for getting me out of that nighmare, A.K.A. owning a Lexus. Never, never again.

From a sedan to an SUV?
You should of did some research.
'07 Camry V6's and the ES 350's had trans problems.
Also first year vehicles so some had rattles and creaks.

Yes a little research would have shown the trans issues with the ES350.

Same with the Lincoln MKX. It's no longer "Recommended" by Consumer Reports due to below average reliability (same for its cousin the Ford Edge). In fact, it's on their list of "Used cars to avoid".

I had issues with my 2007 Ultra during the first few months / 1,000 miles. Dealer replaced transmission in 1/07 and no problems since. My 2011 shifts like a dream so far.

This is why I never buy the 1st model year of ANY car. I've had great luck with my 2010, but there is nothing wrong with a Ford,

+1 on NOT buying the 1st year of a new model! Manufacturers have been letting their customers sort out new models for many years.

Re: Fords. I sort of agree that there's nothing wrong with Fords, except that my experience is that they're only "good" for about three years. After the warranty expires, way too many things start breaking.

Sorry to learn about your troubles...unfortunately you had a very bad dealer. The dealer should have fixed this promptly with no hassles. The ES is a very reliable car, JD Power & Associates and Consumer Reports will back this up. It's rated at the top. The trans issue was indeed a problem and Lexus acknowledged it and in many cases Lexus took back the car and gave the owners completely new vehicles. It appears you got a car that was not maintained very well and how high was the mileage??

I wouldn't throw out the baby with the bath water, I understand your frustration, but Lexus makes very good, classy and reliable vehicles, it's a fact. Do a little research next time as it's been suggested, and take a second look in the future. Thanks for the info though, because buyers should avoid this dealer like the plague.

I agree you should have went to another dealer . I can also agree that Lexus should have helped you. I hear a lot more bad stories from domestic dealers then Toyota/ Honda ...

Glad we avoided the tranny problems. We have an 07 ES350 - just drove past 105K and still runs, and shifts, great.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I can say this is totally opposite from the experience I've had with my 2007. I bought it 1 1/2 years ago with 59k miles, just coming off lease. I'm now at 75k miles and she still rides like a dream. She's a Smoky Granite Mica Ultra Luxury edition. Wonderful driving car with no issues at all. I'm looking forward to driving her until 250k miles or better.
