Default New member with a couple questions!

Hi all, I am a new member to this site as well as just purchased my 1st Lexus, 2010 ES350. I have a couple of questions. First, I can not get my Ipod Nano to work when hooked up to the USB port it's showing there is no connection but it will work in the 1/8 jack. I'm not too sure if this is a 3rd or 4th generation Nano if that means anything. Any thoughts on this? 2nd, what can I use on the dashboard to clean and protect it? Or sholud I have asked this question in the cleaning and detail section? Thanks!

I transferred all of my music to a 25GB stick that is always in the USB port on our 2011. Frees up the nano ipod.

Thanks for the reply garsarno! I ended up doing that also. Obvously there is a DAC built into the software in the lexus audio system. How else would it be able to convert digital to analog! Only if it is plugged into the usb port!

Your Nano should work. I used a Nano for a long time and it worked fine. I wound up just using the Bluetooth audio off of my iPhone though.

First off welcome to the Lexus and Club Lexus family, you will love your car. On the Nano issue, check the version of software it is running on to see if it is a version that is compatible. You can ask the Lexus dealer to check out the compatibility issue for you next time you go in for service, or just drop by, my local Lexus dealer is willing to help with just about anything that can take a sec.
I'm using a ipod touch and I noticed that if I have the equalizer app running the car won't recognize it sometimes as well. You can try the USB stick option, it works but get a good one with fast data rates as once you put a lot of music on it you may experience lag on loading folders etc.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, RTSM! I go in to the dealer to pick up the car tomorrow and I will ask him again about that. I asked a couple days ago but the salesman who sold me the car wasn't too sure. I will look into it a little deeper tomorrow about this.

I have a 2011 ES350 and use an iPod Nano on my ES and it works with no issue - so hopefully the dealer will be able to help you!

I have a 1st/2nd Generation iPod Nano that looks like this: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/earlier/

A great product to protect your dash is Aerospace 303. I've used it for years. It's a great product.

Thanks MDames2! Where would I get Aerospace 303 at? RyanC , Do you have your Nano going thru the usb port or hooked up to the 1/8 input jack?

Can't help you with the Nano situation.I just listen to XM.

303 is a great product, but its too glossy for my taste for use on the interior. I use it on exterior trim and weather seals.

For the interior I use this Ultima Interior Guard Plus: http://www.autogeek.net/ultima-inter...m_campaign=CSE

Its a very thin coating type product that can be used on all surfaces (leather, wood, vinyl, switchgear, etc) and doesn't leave any artificial sheen behind.

After 4-5 minutes,do you follow up with a light buffing with a microfiber or cotton cloth?
I like a matte finish and that works for me.

Yep, I just don't like the way it looks on a dash.

Really and truly, you don't need any protectant on a dash. The glass has UV inhibitors already, as does the vinyl.

Maybe now but some of the 2nd generation IS's in the warm climates had their dashboards literally melting and very sticky. Some threads and posts on that on the 2nd gen IS forum.
Not that 303 or any other type product would have prevented that.
UV inhibitors or not,my '12 dash gets mighty hot in the sun.

Yeah but I think thats the thing, I don't think a product would help with that. I think a much better thing to do is use a sunshade when parking in the sun for long periods.
