Long story short......I bought my used 2009 ES350 several months ago but it only came with one FOB and key. I have read numerous threads where members have bought used FOBs and had them reprogrammed at the dealer, which I did. I purchased a used FOB on eBay, same FOB and serial/model #s as the FOB that came with the car.
Took it to the dealer today and got a call stating that they couldn't program the new/used FOB because it was to an '08 car.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
The rep said that they attempted to do a master reset, but because the circuit boards are different they could do the programming.
I guess I don't understand because the FOBs are supposed to be the same if they have the same serial/model #s. Aren't the FOBs supposed to work for a range of year models?
Thoughts????

Got back from the dealer and he stated that the circuit board #s, the last four digit, are different. He states that the last four digits of the working FOB and the used FOB need to match for the used FOB to be reprogrammed.
Again, it was my understanding that the FOBs are compatible if the Manufacturer and Interchange part #s were the same.

Yep. Service rep sent me some information stating that different FOBs speak different "languages".My car must have a FOB with the last four digits 3370, which goes to 2009 vehicles. The used FOB I tried to get reprogrammed was 0140, which goes to 2006-2008 vehicles. ![Egads!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/pat.gif)
I have now found another FOB with the correct #s and will try to get that one reprogrammed as soon as it arrives.
Anyone need an extra FOB ???????

Should have no problem. We see this quite a bit. Sucks to have to tell someone they blew the cash for the wrong item. But then again they wouldn't know unless asking the dealer first. But that's a double-edged sword.

An used FOB from ebay is a sometimes a hit and miss. I bought 2 fobs from ebay with the right code and when programming, one didn't work and the other one works. A master tech can sometime have problem programming as they did for my car. If adding a same code to the fob is not possible, a master reset has to be done and the procedure is different. sometime, they way charge a extra.
