Default Rear view mirror wobbles vertically

I have a 2010 ES 350 that I bought two months ago from Lexus Certified Pre-owned. I just picked it up from the Lexus body shop after minor work (trunk, armrest) and while I was picking it up I noticed that the rear view mirror wobbles substantially. It's loose in how it connects to the mount on the glass. There's like a good quarter inch of vertical play.

I had never noticed that before. I pointed it out the to guy at the Lexus body shop and he walked over to a 2012 ES 350 next to us and sure enough it exhibited a similar issue, though not as much as mine.

It doesn't seem to be much of an issue in that it doesn't seem to bounce up and down while driving, but it sure does seem odd that it would be so loosely fitted like that. It makes it odd to try to reposition the mirror since you have to allow for the play.

Is this really "normal"? I'm just trying to decide whether to spend any time on trying to "fix" it.

Thanks!

Not the way my mirror operates on the '11 model.

definitely not right. though in working on the trunk and armrest I can't imagine what could have happened to it. My 07 doesn't do that.

Maybe that guy worked on both of them and he screwed them both up. Or maybe he was working on the 12 and didn't get it right then messed with your's to see how it worked and now they are both loose.

Doesn't seem normal at all.

I had the same issue with my 2011 ES350. I told the service adviser about it when I had the oil changed and they tightened it up. I assume there is some sort of set screw under the plastic cover that needed tightening.

It's an easy fix as long as you have the right tool, look behind the mirror by pushing the mirror up toward the roofline...you'll see a screw hole in the shape of a star, just tighten that up. I was lucky to have a multiple head screwdriver with different attachments, no more wobble
