Default Replacement headlight bulb question

I apologize for what may be a dumb question concerning a replacement headlight bulb. I ordered an exact replacement for my 2008 ES350. It is a Phillips 35W D4S #42402. The bulb I am replacing as well as the one in the "picture" on the website from the company I ordered it from were identical. When I received the bulb I found the numbers match up and the bulb looks identical except for the fact there is what appears to be a plastic covered filament that extends from the tip of the bulb up, outward and down to the base of the black housing. I am not sure what this is and if it is installed "as is" or if this is a "removable" piece and is just there to keep it from being damaged during shipping. Thx much and any help would be appreciated!

By the way, the other side is going to look a different color than the new one, you should replace both sides at the same time.
