Question 2007 - 2008 Lexus ES350 Acceleration Problems?

Hello all. I was looking to buy my mother a car and of course I considered buying a lexus because of there nice looks and excellent reliablity history. My mom likes the 07 and 08 ES350 models. But my concern with that is the "stuck accelerator" problem that happen a few years ago. My question is did lexus fix all those ES models that had that problem. I don't need my mom in a car that can't stop. But anyway I was just wondering if they got this situation fixed also are these cars still reliable like the early model ES?

The route cause was people putting all weather rubber mats ONTOP of the carpet floor mats. You press the pedal down and it could get stuck in the grooves of the rubber mat. There was a recall where Lexus will shave off a little bit of the gas pedal to prevent it. Or just don't put down double mats.

In a word, yes. The sudden acceleration problem was proven to be primarily driver error. During the furor/frenzy they added throttle override so even under full throttle when you apply the brakes the throttle is cut off as soon as the brakes are applied. If you buy her a car, just malke sure that this update has been made to the car you are considering.

If you use Search here you'll find a lot of reading and information on the subject. Good luck in your search for her car.

and be sure she knows how to turn off the engine while the car is in gear and moving...this is good to know even without the accelerator issue.

The sudden acceleration problem was basically BS. 07 and 08 ES350's are GTG. Just don't use some ridiculous 4" thick floor mats and make sure the throttle bypass software upgrade was done as LexBob mentioned, no worries at all.
