Default Engine light and VSC

Wife's 2007 ES 350 with about 100k miles has the engine light and VSC on this weekend. I pulled the code and it has a P0355.

I reset it, it came back after 15 miles. Oil fluid is good.

Wife reports today the car feels like its shakes more when she brakes .

Anybody has an idea? I read most of the threads here... but its so general.

P0355 is a Cylinder 5 misfire, time to replace the coils and plugs.

VSC comes on with any engine light, so don't let that lead you astray.

Cyl 5 is driver's side rear. With the amount of crap you're gonna have to take off to get to it, I'd at least do all 3 rear banks with plugs and coils, if not all 6.

Do you guys recommend factory parts for these kinds of things? I am assuming for the coils, they are the same parts or each coil has a different part number?

Just bought a set of 6 from ebay

What is the recommend spark plugs?

Thanks guys.

Thanks.

I did not mention on my original post, but it also has a car icon with the slippery streaks on the bottom left of the panel. I am assuming it relates to the VSC in an image form

I drove the car tonight and experienced what my wife described. Rpm goes from 700-800.

I might switch car with her but she is not comfortable driving the tacoma. I wonder if the car will make it til the weekend?

Yes the traction light comes on as well, I wouldn't drive the car on 5 cylinders.

If it's a fairly consistant miss (as opposed to a very intermittant miss) don't wait too long to accomplish the repair. Raw fuel getting dumped into a catalytic converter supposedly will shorten it's life.

I had a cyl D misfire, thankfully it was within a month of buying the car so the dealership did all 6 coils and plugs. It's a good weekend project. If you do have to drive it for a while, just don't beat on it until you can get it fixed.

Raw fuel dumping into the cylinder with no ignition is likely to screw with the rings more so than the cat, I would think.

When buying stuff off ebay you can ask the seller to ship it priority or next day, it might cost a bit more but not as much as its going to cost if you wreck something driving the car for a week on 5 cylinders.

as long as you didn't beat on it a week won't make a difference. I drove mine with a Cyl D misfire and a random misfire code for 2 weeks, just babied it. Now it's been fixed for ~5k miles, running like a champ.

These cars are not as fragile as the dealer or some 'mechanics' would make you think.

How was this problem ultimately resolved?

I have same year ES350 and got a P0057 code two days ago with 117900 miles. Replaced the plugs (for the first time) and cleared the code. So far, so good. Code hasn't returned and car is running smoothly - knock-on-wood.

Out of curiosity, how much will it cost to change them all at the stealership?
