I agree that the factory speakers are horrible at best. You can see in my thread, I swapped mine out for a set of Phoenix Gold components. Yes, they were 2nd on my 3 stage upgrade (head unit was first) but the change was remarkable.

JL is always a good choice but their price to performance ratio is not the best. My PG components were always rated at one of the best in the $100 range. If I were going the more expensive route, I'd look at CDT, DLS or Dynaudio.

The factory amp does have enough power to drive the speakers when the bass is removed from the signal.
