Default clear hood shield

Thanks to all of the posters here, I learn a lot from just lurking. We got a '09 ES 350 from a private party that is in immaculate condition. It has a very clear thin film over the front part of the hood ( like these black bras that you see on sports cars) . You have to look very hard to see it but I am wondering if it is supposed to stay there? Was it put there just for transit to the dealer? Will it affect the paint later on ( doesn't seem to now after 4 years of being there)? Is it here for protection from gravel or road debris? Thanks again for responses.

It's a clear coating, probably applied by a place that also does window tinting. Leave it alone.

It is an optional protection against road debris and does not come off. You likely have the same film protection on your rear bumper to protect it from scratches from loading heavy objects into the trunk.

Thanks, I was just afraid it would turn white or yellow or discolor the hood. This is a dark red and has not faded yet in the West TX sun.

If it's a good quality clear bra (like 3M etc.) it should hold up well for quite a few years. It's good the car has it.
