Default Sunroof Glass Replacement 2009 ES350

I am needing to replace the Glass only on a 2009 ES350. Apparently the sunroof can be replaced without removing the headliner but I am not sure. I read one thread that said to take it to an automotive trim shop. I am hoping I can find the exact instructions such as what alldata provides and/or the contents of the factory repair manual for replacing the Sunroof glass. I have searched this forum and found three threads but not what I am looking for.

Default Thank you nevernu

Thank you nevernu,

That information was better that I could get from alldata, at least from what I found.
I can't believe all the trim they say to remove to replace just the sunroof glass.

Well the sunroof glass can be found for $299 and it seems flat rate time is 4.5 hours.
I will study the pdf files and see what I can do with it before updating this thread.

Thank you very kindly, you have been very helpful.

I believe that you would only have to remove all the interior "stuff" if you are replacing/removing the "sliding roof housing" from the car. Thus, the title "SLIDING ROOF HOUSING: REMOVAL" of the second pdf. It looks to me like the glass removal is more like just steps 77 - 79 of that same pdf. I would sure check with someone who knows for sure before starting the job yourself.

You think its going to be a walk in the park eh? HAHAHAHA try it!

Do yourself a favor and pay to have it done. Otherwise I hope you are not working for 2-4 days, are meticulous in memory, and have removed panels before because thats how long it'll take to do it yourself. Also, you better hope you dont break any panels, clips, or miss putting back any screws either. On top of that you have to be VERY careful not to crease the headliner as it will be permanently deformed. You basically have to strip almost the entire interior of the car to be able to get it out. It is NOT easy.

If you got a quote from your dealership and think its going to take the ~4.5 they charge you, you are mistaken. They only charge that because no one would actually pay for the actual labor hrs it would cost. How do I know this? I talked it over with the service consultants and master tech after I did the job myself when I sound deadened the entire roof for my sound system install.

Smile Fixed: Total $360

Hi Guys and thanks for all your help.
I am sorry but I don't have any pics to post as I did not see the fix but here is what happened.
We bought the sunroof glass for 299 and got the entire frame and all from pick a part.

The junk yard installed it for only $60 for a total fix of 360.
It only took 20 minutes to replace the window so there is a very quick easy way to replace the glass.
I am sorry I can't post a discription/pics to help others out.

77. REMOVE SLIDING ROOF SIDE GARNISH LH
(a) Disengage the 5 claws and remove the sliding roof side garnish LH.
(See pic in 02.pdf in this same thread)

78. REMOVE SLIDING ROOF SIDE GARNISH RH
HINT: Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side.

79. REMOVE SLIDING ROOF GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a T25 "TORX" driver, remove the 4 screws and sliding roof glass sub-assembly.
(See pic in 02.pdf in this same thread)

Ah, I was under the impression that you were trying to change the whole or part of the actual assembly that bolts to the roof out. Which would of taken what I listed above.

You are indeed correct in the procedure if it was ONLY just the top glass part: Not the opening motor mechanism or the surrounding weatherstripping which people usually have problems with.
1 plastic piece on each side covers the screws and thats it.

Sorry for the misinformation but good on you for actually researching and resolving the issue yourself. We dont always get it right but we try lol
