Default removing blower for cleaning

I need to clean the blower fan from debris after 5 years of use. I replace my cabin filter often and it gets dirty quickly.

I woiuld like to know th procedures to remove the blower to clean it nicely, has anybody done it or at least the schematics.

thank you.

See the last page here: If you do have to remove the knee-pad airbag electrical connector to remove the airbag (for access) ensure that you disconnect the negative battery cable for about five minutes BEFORE disconnecting the airbag connector.

Good luck and I would be surprised if you find anything.

If the filter has not been removed in a long time and/or if the material caught by the filter is too large (like leaf litter) it can be lying on top of the filter (small stuff will be down in the convolutes) and when the filter is removed some of the debris may be "scraped off" and drop down into the fan. At least one member on this forum has had crap down in the fan. Looking at the drawing I think that one will only have to remove the lower panel undercover to access the fan assembly (retained with three bolts).

I've done the blower fan clean up before on my older car, it is a good maintenance practice to do so, This is why:

1. cleaning the fan blades and debris out make it less prone to working hard. Cleaning and greasing makes it quieter because debris do accumulate on the moving parts, i can it with WD-40 and lithium grease.

2. A clean fan blower lower the need to replace the filter.

3. It is a easy DIY to minimize the need to replace the blower motor.

With the correct and correctly installed filter you should not be getting much debris at the fan because the filter is UPSTREAM of the fan. The only way would be as I stated in my post #5 above. When you remove the filter you can look down into the fan rotor and check to see what may be there.......you can vacuum whatever may be there.

We should have a poll on this. The question is : how many people clean their blower motor before it comes time to sell their car. Also how many people have ever cleaned their blower motor .

My answers are : never and never

Note : years of driving 55

yes it had 2 cabin filters in fact but it was the blower impeller that was really plugged with pine needles so much so that spinning was askew resulting in the whine. amazing quiet when it was cleaned....back to regular programming

Done the job today, took 10 mins.

1. pull down the bottom trim, Not to worry about anything since it is held with clips. If you want to do it carefully, grab the edge and pull down.

2. unplug the foot light

3. Use a flashlight and use a short flat screwdriver, very short, no more than a inch. 3 screws placed in a triangle edge.It is not held tightly from the factory to ease the removal.

4. remove the fan unit, it will drop down, it is tight to remove the unit so remove the foot carpet.

5. unplug the connector to the unit.

My fan blower is not that dirty, i clean the blades with alcool and wipe the cavity inside the blower under the dash, Put it back in the reverse matter.

A trick, since the working area is tight, put the unit back under the dash and use a block to hold the unit still until you rescrew the 3 bolts. Then test the fan out.

I have the insurance now that the blower is well maintain, since my blower is not that dirty, i didn't notice any noise change.

hope that helps.
