Thanks for the write-up and photos. I had to do a water-pump replacement on my wife's previous car and it had a very similar looking water-pump. It took about 8 hours as I had to remove the alternator and drop the a/c compressor with very tight space. Luckily it all came together and I never had another problem. I also replaced the tensioner and thermostat while doing it.
How much work was it to bleed the cooling system after all of this?

I'm having my water pump replaced in a few weeks. It's leaking a bit but not much. My mechanic says it can wait until after xmas as long as I regularly check the coolant levels. He told me it would be a 5 hour job. After reading this thread I believe him.

This engine has a bleeder on the top, so no problem. I filled it up and then I drove it until the thermostat opened up and that was it. Now it will probably suck some coolant from the expansion tank but I will keep an eye on it.
There's no way he can do it for 5 hours.
How many miles? Year?
One more thing. The original water pump is Aisin, part number: 16100-39455. That pump was replaced with the better one, part number 16100-39456. Make sure you get the 16100-39456.

Thanks for the bleed information.
I just looked up the labor estimate on a DIY site and it shows a skill level of B and 4.4 hours to replace the water pump (not including hoses). As you mentioned, it always takes me a lot longer that the labor estimates to do it myself, as I'm overly cautious and don't always have all of the needed tools.

You need a lot of special tools, because there's no space for normal wrenches.
The lack of space is the only problem. You have to remove all the sorroundings just to get to the pump. It took me exactly 4 hours to remove all those things.
