Can my car sense old oil?
I changed my oil a while ago and reset the maintenance task, which just recently expired and told me it was time for an oil change. I set the task back another few hundred miles to push it back a week, but my dashboard still says oil maintenance required. I can hit the "disp" button to remove the warning, but it appears again a few seconds later with the warning light. I checked and my new maintenance task still has a month and 150 miles on it.
My question is - does my ES350 actually know my oil is actually dirty (I know newer cars do this, but figured mine was from before that was common)? Or just that my reminder went off and I haven't actually changed it yet?

Your car can't sense old oil; it just prompts you 4500 miles after resetting the internal counter; then stays on solid if not reset at 5000. Follow the procedure in the youtube video and you're all set (after each oil change).

The short answer is NO. Also no car that I know of can detect the quality (dirty) of the oil. There are a few different method used by auto makers but most of them are by mileage interval. When you see oil life by percentage it is based on either engine starts or mileage.
