Has anyone changed coil #1 without removing intake?
Over the past 3 days I have been getting persistent P0301 code. I clear it and it comes back ~50 miles later. Considering I replaced plugs about 10K ago, I highly suspect it is ignition coil on cylinder #1. So, I would like to avoid removal of the intake, etc. Was anyone successful in replacing this coil without taking the intake off? Is there enough room to do it with intake on?
I am thinking to remove the strut tower bar and the small bracket that holds the intake to the head/cam housing. Can it be done?
Thanks!

Somebody on here reported they were able to on another spark plug thread. They didn't give any details about it though.
Edit: found this on a toyota forum

- I remove the throttle body, air box and everything up to the plenum. On the Lexus ES 350 there is a strut bracket to remove (4 bolts) which allows extra room. I don't remember if the Avalon has one but if it does it has to come off. Then I pull off the coils and push aside (do not unclip) one at a time. I insert a deep well spark plug socket on a flexible socket extension and break the plug loose. Once the plug is loose I remove the socket and extensionfrom the well and use a 12" piece of clear tubing to fit over the end of the spark and unscrew it and pull out of the well.
I use this clear tubing to screw in the new plug until finger tight then tighten with the socket and extension. Then slip the coils back on and tighten the 10mm nut. This takes about 10 minutes per plug. A bit tedious but I have done it.

Done!
Done! I removed engine covers, strut bar (4 nuts with 14mm socket), surge tank brace that's over the coil (2 bolts 12mm). The coil comes out easy.
While I was at it, also replaced a headlight bulb P0301 coil #1 replacement

OEM of course. I am ok if these last another 140K miles
When it comes to engine parts, I only get OEM parts (except for air filter - I use K&N). Other parts, depending on application, I will use quality aftermarket parts...
