Default cigar lighter always powered with 12V

How can i fix the power to the cigar lighter so it is always powered. I did this on my 4Runner by removing the fuse for the lighter and replacing it with a jumper. really handy for charging cell phone with out having to leave the car power on.

would that be more risk to drain battery power? i left the doors open for few hours and battery drained completely.

It's a very small risk draining the battery via the cig lighter ports. I've always had vehicles that had full power at the cig ports and I never drained a battery through their usage. For those of us used to having power 24/7 at the cig port, the convenience is worth the small risk.

Harold, if our ES350 was my daily driver, I'd have added power there all the time in the first month of driving it. But, the wife won't let me do any 'unauthorized' mods to it. It doesn't look too difficult pulling out the center console panels to access the rear of either port and running a 10 or 12 gauge wire to the fuse panel in the engine compartment. I'm sure someone out there has done it.

I seem to remember someone tapped into the wire harness for the power seats. I think they actually connected up a separate outlet rather than modify the stock ones.

Thanks for the replies, I actually meant to write "relay" rather than "fuse". I would not want to replace a fuse with a jumper wire!!!! on most forums that would have set off some alarms.
I have been working on cars (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic) for over 55 years and havent done anything stupid (yet).
