Sold the ES
My 2007 ES needed an alternator so I took it to my usual garage. Got an estimate for $1,375, which I really didn't want to put into that car. And I was informed the motor mounts were on the verge of needing replacement, various front bushings were shot (which was obvious to me), and something else. Also, it was going to need tires very soon.
Long story short, I drove it to a Hyundai dealer and traded it for a 2015 Sonata Sport, which is a perfectly fine car. Most importantly, no money went out of my pocket and after some dickering I got a good car, not great, mind you, at a very reasonable price. Flung it around the DC beltway at stupid speeds on Saturday afternoon, briefly, and actually had some fun with it. It runs nice and steady at 90.
My Dad runs around Houston in a 2011 Sonata, which has quite a few miles on it now and seems to have held up well. I like that car too, although it's a bit noisy inside. The 15 is quieter.
I do miss the V6 power of the Lexus, of course, and the keyless entry/start. I don't have a sunroof now, and don't care. I do have heated seats. And a backup camera. And satellite radio. And a folding rear seat!!
I don't miss wondering what will break next.
Cheers and best wishes to all.

Lexus Champion
Most non warranty work can be done at a Toyota dealership at a much lower cost or at a good indy shop. The ES shares most of its components with the Camry and Avalon.

the next time it needed to be done I went to Big O Tires when I lived in Jackson WY and it was like 250 or 300 bucks for parts and labor and tax I think closer to 300 but not exactly 300.
sometimes its cheap to repair sometimes not I usually will just buy my own parts and go to the dealer for and pay the labor I do this because I trust them at the dealerships I go to they haven't ever treated me wrong but the parts department and the service department is two different departments and when the service department is honest and likes you the parts department doesn't always care they just want to get the most out of the parts the service advisor and tech have no control over what the parts guy is going to discount or not discount on the part
one time when i need an LCA on the passenger side the dealer wanted like 1600 parts and labor
firestone or maybe it was tires plus did it for 850.

Oh, and it was the axles that they were also recommending I replace soon. So.. alternator, motor mounts, bushings, axles and tires. Yeah, no thanks.
Just nice to be in something different. Got my three month SiriusXM trial working today, pretty nice.

All good things eventually come to an end.
My 2010 is 8 yrs old now and still only has 48K miles on it. I fully expect it to out last me. Hard to put miles on a vehicle just driving to and back from the golf course!

My 2011 matador red / parchment has 45,000 miles on it, paid for and running well. Platinum warranty running out next month, no issues. Gone through three sets of tires though, just wearing out evenly. Mobil one oil changes, car runs well. Hate to give it up.
