Steering wheel shakes when brakes applied at high speed
This is a reoccurring problem. I replaced the rotors and brake pads 6 months ago because my steering wheel shook when I put on the brakes especially at high speed.
6 months later its doing it again. Im wondering if there is more to this than bad rotors. Ideas?

Lug nut torque and technique correct? 76 ft/lbs torque and "Star" pattern around to avoid wheel/rotor warping.

Normally your symptoms are caused by a warped rotor as you mentioned. So I would 1st go to a brake specialist and have them check the rotor run out on the car. If this is in spec. then you need to look at every front end component. Check calipers and slides to make sure nothing is sticking . Then ball joints and tie rod ends. Next is the steering rack and then suspension bushings. Last woulds be the half shafts and the engine mounts. I would also assume you checked wheels and tires as well as wheel studs . Other then that you

I just posted about this. Have a look at my post from earlier today. Definitely check your hub runout, but also have your shocks and drive shafts checked and use premium rotors and pads.

I had this Problem it was my Right Front Rotor was warped The reason why it was warped was that the Right Front Caliper was freezing up.

Warped rotors.

I had this same issue with aftermarket rotors (both FR and RR) and the vibrations would return within less than a year. Although the aftermarket parts had 2-year warranty, I had enough of the frequent repairs and on the last repair/exchange I upgraded to OEM parts (about a month ago). Hoping they will last longer than aftermarket ones...

I just re-read your post. Originally I thought you had warped rotors, but since you changed it recently, maybe your calipers are seized
Have you thought about taking it to an independent mechanic shop to have them inspect and turn your rotors.

When the pads were replaced did they service the brake calipers by removing, cleaning and re-greasing the slide pins to make sure none were seized or sticking? I had a frozen rear caliper due to a stuck slide pin as it had never been service until it froze at 60,000 miles. It was my hybrid and I got lazy as those brakes last forever.

Anyhow they machined it and we were good. Well after a year or so the vibratiion got really bad so I went to them again and this time they changed the rotors. Come next year and we have the same issue, this time it was out of warranty so they machined it. Then after several months we were again at same situation and I refused to pay for machining to dealership so I took them out myself and got them machined from O'Rileys and did the same thing two more times and then they said they cannot machine them anymore because they are too thin. I have been driving with vibration for couple of years and got fed up and went ahead and bought new genuine complete set (rotors, pads and caliper rebuild kit). I have just replaced them and will wait few months and see how it goes!
Thanks,

I have the same issue for almost 10 years now I noticed the vibration after few months and went to dealership. They said the rotors were warped and it is because of my aggressive driving style. Well I have two other cars and they do not have this issue so why my driving style only affect this one car?

You could spring the extra money for cryogenic (frozen) rotors that are much more resistant to warping and wear due to the freezing treatment. Do a Google search or check Tire Rack as there are at least a few suppliers. Most buy the rotors from elsewhere, then perform the treatment. I had them on my old Ford Explorer that ate front rotors and they lasted over 60,000 miles with no problems.
