Anyone know how to disable daytime running lights
I recently installed new headlights on my 08 ES 350 (OEM style) and I switched to LED low beams. The low beams have the "demon eye" feature which makes the low beams project a certain color when the headlights are not on. The daytime running lights ruin this look for me because they project a yellowish light out of the high beam, taking away the full effect of the "demon eyes". I have tried to take out the fuse for high beams, but I would like to be able to use them. I've tried to modify the wires to the high beam but that did not work. I'm looking for a way to shut off the daytime running lights. Does anyone know where the control module that controls them is located and which wire I should pull? A wiring diagram would also be helpful, Thank You.

You can turn them if you have Techstream, or if you visit your dealer.

It is definitely illegal in Canada, and likely some European countries, but its ok to disable DRL in the US. In fact, many cars meant for the US market actually provide a DRL disable button.
But I side with your safety comment..... not sure why anyone would want to disable it and prefer not to be seen!

If he disables the DRL that doesn’t mean he will not turn the low beams on.

In the united States it is not other wise everyone with a car that is any older than the 90s would be driving ileaggly
however perhaps in your area those cars could be under grandfather laws because if its over 25 years it doesnt have to abide by most emissions but still saftey is another thing so DRL would be considered a saftey essiue wich still wouldn't fall under those laws

On a different but related topic, have you seen those dopes who use their high beams during the day, thinking it doesn't blind others?

"See and to be seen". .Personally safety factor over rides how the car I am driving looks. Cars in my family; MB, Audi, BMW. One Toyota 4 Runner. Had Lexus RX hybrid once.

I would try to get a wiring diagram and see how the DRL's function. They are on a lower voltage but I don't know if they work from a relay or if the voltage comes from the ECU. If a relay there would have to be a resistor lowering the voltage in the normal driving range and then switch to the higher voltage when the light switch is turned. If fed from the ECU then the voltage differential would be from the circuit..

In USA, the DRLs are not mandatory whereas in Canada they are...
On a side note, there should be a DRL relay. Removing it should disable them while leaving other headlight functions the same...

That is not strictly speaking true. While the vehicle must be equipped with DRLs if manufactured after 1989, it is not illegal to drive with them being disabled. I don't know about the rest of the world.
