Default yet another question on a topic beat to death

so our 08 ES with 95k miles sounds like a VW TDI
yes I am sorry, I know there are multiple threads on the topic but is there a definitive answer?
in some cases it is told to be the fuel injection, in others - tight tolerances and yet in other cases it is a seriuos vvti issue
so how do i know what my car's issue is and whether it has a problem?
the car has always been filled up with top tier 93 not that this makes a difference
it's gotten louder lately and in warm weather as well so off to the dealer it went twice

visit 1 ; THERE IS A LOUD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. CHECK AND ADVISE ~ ~TICKING IN ENGINE IS NORMAL FROM FUEL INJECTORS ~ ~NO ACTION TAKEN AT THIS TIME

visit 2: ENGINE IS MAKING A TICKING NOISE AND BELIEVES IT IS RELATED TO THE TSB 0028-09. CHECK AND ADVISE ~ ~FOUND NO ABNORMAL ENGINE NOISE. SOUNDS LIKE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP/FUEL INJECTOR NOISE WHICH IS COMMON ~
voicemail from CS yesterday
we are going to have our master tech who is on the Lexus DS board (whatever this means) listen to your engine. bring it in again

what should we do? do we bring it in and pay another $120 just for him to listen?
ignore and keep fingers crossed?
go to an indy shop? what can they do about this?

THANKS

It sounds like piston slap. Can you take a video?

Did you ask for a third visit or did they call you out of the blue saying a master tech would be in? If the latter, it should be on their dime. Although I would argue they should pay the fee no matter what since the previous visits did not diagnose the problem.

i did not ask for it
they left me a voicemail a week after visit
the first diagnostic visit was "free' because they made me pay $189 for ECU reprogram which did not help anything but i did not get a refund
the second visit was not free and neither will be the 3rd if i chose to go
so far $350 down the drain but i am scared that i have a serious engine issue
hens asking for advise

Go to an independent shop.

My 2010 ticks also and is noticeable if you are outside when the engine is idling. When you are inside the car it is difficult to hear. So the degree of noise shouldn't be that different from car to car. I would suggest before you waste more time and money to go to your Lexus dealer and have them take you out to their used Lexus cars and start them up. Compare their noise to yours and see if there is a difference. Also check to make sure all of your plastic engine covers are in place as they also act to dampen sound. You may find you are over critical .

I did this and my noise can very well be heard while inside the car while our 14 es is dead quite when sitting inside

all the plastic covers are there and tight

to the poster above, go to an independent shop and start paying for diagnostics from scratch? I will if you think it is worth it

will an Indy shop not just charge me an hour labor and say that the noise is from the fuel injectors?

Both my 07' and 14' ES have relatively noisy injectors and can be heard from the outside. The 07' is a tad louder (although it has far more plastic under the hood), both can be heard inside the car too but you have to be trying to listen for it.

I had an '07 ES350 which I bought just as they were launched in late April/early May 2006 and there was a lot of ongoing conversations regarding the engine noise. It's not something I'd worry about or throw much money after trying to resolve.

Make a video on your phone and post it here. Do it with the hood open and the hood closed. Others can then make a comparison with their's and see if there is a difference.
