I've done a bunch of searches but haven't gotten very consistent answers but...for the low beam, what's the technical difference in wiring that comes with the Halogens vs. the HIDs? Is it down to the wire harness from the ECU? Or is there a mini harness behind the Ballasts?
I'm looking to swap out my mom's HIDs for Halogens as she's had a nightmare of a time, replacing bulbs and ballasts frequently because they flicker/go out and have given her nothing but grief.
In case there's no mini harness that I could just swap out, is the ballasts fed a simple 12V +/- through the connector above? In which case I could probably re-terminate with a normal H7 socket (the bulb itself has an H7 flange that twists into the housing, right?)
I would look at it in person if my mom weren't 30 miles away atm.
Thanks in advance.
That connector gets 12 volts. But swapping a xenon bulb for halogen will be a serious drop in light output plus the lamp housing is designed for a xenon bulb. What you are wanting to do is a bad idea.

Darn, forgot about the housing replacements. Since I don't feel like spending $200 on a set of used halogen housings, I guess I'll replace the bulb and/or ballast once again for the 8th time.
Anecdotally I've never met anyone who didn't have HID problems. It's unreliable, outdated tech. That's just my experience though.

I've had good luck with HID kits but I chose them fairly carefully. Lexus xenon lighting is generally very reliable I'd like to know why you're having constant failures, design flaw on this model? You could get a pair of Hylux ballasts and wire them in that's probably what I would do.
Next thing you're gonna tell me the sky is blue.
Have you considered the safety aspect of dropping light output that much?
