2011 ES350 No gears
New to the Lexus world. Didn't see this anywhere else.
So I've had slips over the last new weeks, like it almost drops out of gear, revs a bit then jumps into first as I sit at a stoplight
Took it on a short trip today, no real issues, but about 20min from home I feel hard shifts, and then I don't have 4th, switch over to shifting gears with the shifter into 3rd and as it pulls a hill it revs high, up and down and hard jerking. A mile more down the road I have no gears and coast into a driveway. I sit there maybe 10min start it up and I have 1st, drive a little ways, back to no gears, still no lights on the dash.
Park and sit for a bit, same thing, high rev, unknown on gears, and make it mostly up my hill and then no gears again, but got traction control light and a check engine light
Thoughts?
Im letting it cool and maybe it will make it the rest of the way to the house. Will be getting a reader to check on the codes.
My machinic buddy is confused about regaining gears. I've looked at the service bulletins and such without much clarity.
Any help appreciated and prayers for my wallet

If there's nothing mechanically or electronically faulty with the trans, my first thought would be the fluid is either low or bad. Without hydraulic power, you won't have a functioning transmission. Does it leak?
I would perform a drain and fill with some Valvoline Max-Life or OEM fluid to see if you regain function. Wouldn't hurt to at least inspect the condition of the fluid either.

Haven't noticed any leaks - but once it cools off it seems to regain the gears.
I am towing it to my buddies house this week and will update on the fluid levels

When I bought my ES, it had 123k on it. It shifted a bit rough at times and wasn't as smooth as it is now at 152k. I did a drain and fill with the Valvoline, and it just about made the car drive like new again.

Thats because of the pressure solenoid valve.

Experience with my ES was that the transmission shifted rough and felt notchy when the fluid was very dark, almost black. After the drain and fill @ 122k, the fluid was more reddish, and no shifting issues at all. I believe I was able to save the tranny from premature wear. I'm at 154k now and it still shifts perfectly.
In your case I would inspect the color, but more importantly check the smell of the fluid. If it smells burnt, then there's a good chance the tranny is already toast.

I am sure your fluid is worn out.
In order to inspect the fluid you have to drain some, so...
Just take it to an independent shop that can do a transmission fluid drain and fill or fluid exchange and hope your issues get resolved or improved with fresh fluid.
That is the first and least expensive thing you must and should do to try and fix this problem.
Anything else involves taking the transmission apart, which also means maybe more money than the car is worth.
Do the fluid change, if it is not much better be prepared to spend thousands on a new or used transmission or repairs for yours or to trade it in.
