Insertion of cv axle

Insertion of cv axle
Hello, I've just replaced the cv axle boot kit on the driver side. To insert it back in the transmission, I was able to snap the ring back inside the transmission but there's still a bit of a gap between the transmission and the inner boot housing. Is this normal or should I try to push it in further as I don't want to deal with any transmission leakage in the future? Also when I took out the axle a bit of ATF seeped out of the axle housing. Should I just replace the transmission fluid or can I just add more ATF in equal to the amount that seeped out?

Got a better picture? Not sure what I'm looking at, specifically what looks like a folded back bit of rubber. The axle only goes in so far after that no amount of hammering will make it go in more. You can add the amount of fluid that came out (it's normal for some to leak), or better if possible do a fluid replacement depending on your mileage.

You only need to push the axle into the trans until the snap-ring snaps, so you are good to go! If the fluid loss is less than half-a-cup, I wouldn't worry about it, or as Lexus2000 suggested, do a drain and fill. It will only run you the cost of a few quarts of fluid. Search the forum for how-to's. Unless you have high mileage, I wouldn't drop the pan and replace the filter.
