I buy my oil filters from Toyota. I considered non OEM brands like mobil 1 and K & N, but stuck with OEM for maintaining a record with Toyota/Lexus network. The reciept and empty filter box goes into the service/maintenance folder.

To each their own. While they are undeniable benefits to going 0w30, the ROI on this is arguable and personal choice. Lexus designed that motor to withstand those cold temps during the testing and development on the ES with 5w30, that too with oil with now outdated standards.
My oil change is almost always based on the 6 month interval rather the KM since I dont drive a whole lot. Given the cost difference and considering the fact I will only be changing oil once during Winter, I can justify the extra cost.

$2 USD/ Quart Of 5W-30 Penzoil Ultra plat? It costs around $55 to $60 CAD + Tax for a 5 L can (~5.2 US Quart) at Canadian Tire. I buy it when it's on sale at $36 CAD. By your estimate, a 5L can should cost around $13 CAD.

At those prices the decisions easy. Why 6 months if your not driving a whole lot? You`d be fine to go a whole year at that point. Dino=nonsynthetic base oil would be 6 months tops
Synthetic=synthetic base stock oil are usually much longer in engine oil pan shelf life.

Again your overthinking the brand value. As long as your not buying oil from a sketchy seller, and as long as its certified for the 0w30 you`ll be fine. There are only soo many makers of engine oil (even toyota and other carmakers outsource their requirements).
Toyota/BMW mobil
Supertech Citgo
Amazon basics etc etc

Based on my understanding. Engine oil is to be changed every 6 months or 7,000 KMs. Whichever comes first. I do my oil changes earlier than that based on the ODO. I changed the oil in early June at 160,797; current ODO is at 163,200. Oil is due in November but I might do it just before the temps go in negative.

I have a 2018 XJL that I change the oil in every 8 months (recommended is every 12 months or 25,000 KM). the car gets rarely driven hence I feel the need to change it earlier than recommended.

Is Platinum vs Ultra Platinum something to consider? I can't find 0W-30 Penzoil Ultra Plat

I don't care about the brand of oil, so far it's one of the better ones offered. I used to pay the premium for Castrol edge and the "Special UV dye Castrol professional exclusively meant for Jaguar/Land Rover vehicles". I looked up reviews and viscosity tests online and ended up penzoil since that seemed to be the best value for the price.

Thank you: coolsaber, Tolian21, Lexus2000 and LjeksesES for all your input. Next oil change will be with 0W-30. I will post an update on overall engine sound, vibration (if any) and performance in November.
