Default 2008 Lexus ES350 left motor mount removal and control arm replacement - DIY

Wanted to replace the control arms, and to my surprise, the motor mounts need to come out in order to get to some forward most bolt. Wow, what a challenge to get the left side out! Tried lots of things, and will spare you the details, but in the end, here is what I did: BTW - could not find anyone putting this on the web so here it is:
  • unbolt dog bone motor mount - both bolts
  • unbolt right side motor mount top bolt
  • remove lower bolts from front engine mount
  • remove all bolts from right side engine mount.
  • support engine as a safety measure from above. I used front motor mount as main support and eyelet on head as secondary
  • place jack with wood blocks under trans pan. - jack up to provide support, but dont lift engine
  • drop all for subframe bolts but dont remove them entirely - make sure to leave enough threads for support and safety but enough to allow subframe to be lowered.
  • now slowly jack up motor, while increasing tension on engine support, go back and forth as you raise engine - this is all for safety
  • in my case, I had car on lift, so once i saw it coming off the front legs of the lift, I knew it was as high as it was gonna go
  • using pry bar, pull that mother out. it will be tight. don't stick your hands in there!
  • if this doesn't work, I'm afraid you're gonna have to detach steering gear or something, so subframe will drop even lower.

I've replaced both control arms on our 07 ES350. I used a bottle jack to raise the car the two-three inches you need to be able to remove the motor mounts to access the two bolts on the control arm. Did one side at a time. I bought a LCA kit from macautoparts.net; kit was $144 and included both sides LCA with pressed-in bushings, ball joints, sway bar links, and tie rods. Did this in 2016 and parts are holding up, except for the tie rods as the OEM were good and I did not replace those.

According to Haynes all you need to do is remove top motor mount bolts on both side. Worked fine on right side, but left side it did not work for me. I loosed motor mounts bolts, one side at a time, and tried, then tried front, then tried top, then started on lowering subframe, one corner at a time. Finally, I got to where I was in post #1. Even then it was tight, thought I was going to have to drop the steering gear, but that did the trick.
