Using 87 octane

My 2011 ES is rated for regular 87 octane but my 2005 LS uses premium. Conversations on the LS forum have most owners agreeing that the only change would be in poorer fuel economy. So I stick with premium in that car. Price was $2.29 for 91 octane in Mass yesterday so still affordable IMO

In my '09 ES350, I have consistently used premium as I had other cars in the past that would ping like the dickens if I didn't . Since we fill up about once a month, the difference in price and getting around 20 mpg around town is not a big price to pay. I l have a '05 deVille Caddy that uses regular in the Northstar and gets slightly less and averages around 16 mpg around town.

Lexus 3.5 L V6 engine is widely used in different Toyotas and Lexuses and in most of them the manufacturer calls for regular gas. Using regular gas doesn't make any difference in this engine at all. The computer adjusts the timing in higher rpms to prevent knocking.
