Key fob question
Hello!
I searched the forum for an answer to this question, but couldn't find anything definitive: Can the car be started with a duplicate metal key, or does it have to be a programmed fob?
The used car dealership only gave us one fob and I really want to be sure I get back-ups without having to go to the stealership.
Thanks!

You must have a fob. It reads the transmitted electrical signal in order to be able to start. Try calling a couple of locksmiths for replacement fob estimates. You need to buy the fob, then get it programmed.

I have no idea and recommend you call a dealer or go to a locksmith that is familiar with Toyota and Lexus. They can create a duplicate fob. Or just use the key card, it is supposed to function as a substitute for the fob.

Depending where in FL you are, I have techstream, you could possibly get a new or revirginized key and we could try to add it, I’ve successfully added and removed key fobs on my 2014 ES. Frank
